There are several reasons why your camera may be uploading false triggers.
1) Background motion
- If your camera is out in the field, switch to video mode in order to determine if there is background motion tripping the PIR sensor. Look for bushes, brush, tall grass, etc. that may be too close to the camera causing the PIR sensor to react when there is wind. If this is the case, reposition the camera.
2) Improper mounting of the camera
- Improper mounting of a camera can cause the camera to move, which in turn, trips the PIR sensor. Typically, if a camera is mounted higher off of the ground, to a small tree, or placed on a rod in an open field, wind can cause the camera to sway prompting the PIR sensor to react as if everything in its field of view is moving.
3) Resumed service
- If a camera has been suspended or deactivated while out in the field, and you've recently resumed service, photos taken during the period of suspension or deactivation may be uploaded all at once.
4) Scoutek Camera settings
- Burst Count, Trigger Delay, and Trigger Sensitivity settings may need to be adjusted.
5) Issue with camera and/or PIR sensor
- A true "runaway" camera will upload photos every 15-20 seconds regardless of the current settings. If you feel there is an issue with the camera and/or PIR sensor, please contact support@scoutek.com.
Additional Troubleshooting:
a) Physically power off the camera and format the SD card.
b) Place the camera face down on the ground or face it towards a wall where there will be zero motion. If the camera continues to upload multiple photos, contact support@scoutek.com.
Note: If you are unable to physically access the camera for troubleshooting, you may want to temporarily 'Suspend' service until you have an opportunity to do so.
